When changing your oil you might want to remember something. When unscrewing the bolts to your oil filter you should unscrew the bolts that are farthest away from you first. This is because if you unscrew the ones that are nearest to you then the oil will spill out onto your face, not a pleasant experience. Also the oil filter can be reused forever. Just clean it off with some gasoline and your hand. It works out great, trust me. Head Light Lens If you're looking to fix the headlight lens on a Beetle before 1967 or a Beetle with a 1966 or before head light fixture, then you can use the headlight lens to a 1987-1989 Porsche 911. No modification needed. If you can do this your head light fixture should look like this. GO HERE Crank Gear When installing theCrank Gear, heat gear to over, but no less than 176 degrees using a propane torch, or hot oil bath. Info. on Ignitions The Beef on Distibutors is like this, there are two types, the stock distibutor with vaccum advance, and the centrifugal advance distributors. Vaccum Advance Distributor Is a good distributor for stock applications (1600cc) and holds to the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." The Bosch 009a good distibutor for everday driving, smoother timing curve then stock, retards cylinder 3. The Bosch 050 A good distributor for racing applications, faster timing curve, designed for higher reving motors, draw backs: Does not retard cyclinder three, hits full advance at a lower speed. (not a good distributor if your motor has less than 100 H.P) Contrary to popular belief, plugs, wires, and coils alone will not add a performance advantage. The only way to get any kind of noticiable advantage is to use an electronic ignition such as a MSD or Jacobs Electronics which give a hotter spark at the precise time it is needed. However good plugs, wires, cap & rotor, and coil will make all the difference in the way your V-Dub will run. Spark Plugs The best plugs to use are NGK, and Bosch Super K plugs. AutoLites and all the other plugs tend to strip heads, and that can be a major pain (especially when driving down the road and a plug blows out of the head). Cylinders & Piston's Slip-In's?? The cheap method to get a bigger engine, but is it worth it? Nope they are not. They make your engine run hotter with very little performance gain (if any). Also the cylinders walls are to thin to take the rigors of daily driving. 92mm Big Bore Piston Sets suffer from the same dilema as the Slip-In sets The walls of these are very thin. What this all means? It means that the cylinders can crack or become square from the 4 head studs causing the pistons to bind in the cylinder. What to buy.. when in the market for a new piston set, there are two types. Forged and Cast, which leaves alot to debate. In my viewpoint, Forged are the best by all means and I leave this open to debate. Teflon Buttons and Total Seal Rings.. Teflon Buttons replace the clips that hold in the wrist pins. The ADVANTAGE?? They don't come loose like clips can, Plus they are made up of Teflon and don't wear as quick. Total Seal rings build more compression but there longevity all depend on the driving habits of the driver and the type of conditions(road or track, hot climate or cold climate). Troubleshooting Clogged Fuel Line? Use an aircompressor hooked into the rubber line to blow the foreign matter out. Does your engine diesel (runs on, etc..)? This serious problem can cause damage to your motor and is common among many high performance motors. To solve this there are two options: Retard your timing enough to remedy this, usually one or two degrees. Or Switch to a higher octane fuel. ...More Tips... Since you know stuff I don't just E-Mail me with some help. I'm pretty sure you haven't found what you're looking for here so I would suggest that you go to this place called VOLKSWEBBIN. You can also go here to look at some catalogs for VW maintenance. This place works sometimes but if not just try again. |
